That is a great way to look at building an online business but it can seem a long time to have to wait 9 years!!! At least if I manage 6 hours a day on my business I can shortern that. That is working 5-11pm every day after working a full time job but I guess if I want it, then I have to do the work

This provides a great gauge for us to work by whether it is accurate or not – knowing how many hours I need to put into succeeding will at least help me keep on going

This is very insightful – I would like just to earn a little extra because I love my job but just need some more money and I don’t think I have ever put in 3 hours every day… that is something to think about.

Hi Monty

You know I only ever experience frustration when I am blogging for money rather than blogging for passion and earning money. I have found there is a big difference. I write on a blog about self confidence and over there – whether I earn money or not – I love to do it. I think loving your topic helps with frustration.

Also, when you are frustrated (or at least when I am) I find my mind is focused on the future. Where I want to be – and this causes feelings of frustration about not being there. All I did was bring myself back to the present and focus on what I can do today to help me get there, appreciating that it is a process and progress is important.

Many of the top bloggers were blogging for several years before they really made the big bucks and I know the culture in internet marketing is to brag about making money without being honest about how long it took. Trust me… I am still waiting for the moment where I will be sitting on a beach with my laptop – that is the dream I was sold back in 2005 and I still believe its possible. The only thing it will take is time and learning from experts.

As long as you have the basics in place

1. you have a niche that is active and has the potential to promote products

2. you are building a subscriber list (your online business is nothing without a list)

3. you are providing valuable content to your audience based on your keywords (I did keyword research before deciding on the title of this blog post)

4. you learn from those who are where you want to be, making sure you IMPLEMENT what you learn (because information without implementation is useless)

5. You keep going and never, ever, ever give up – instead you monitor, tweak, review and keep an eye on what you are doing and whether it is working.

6. You know your WHY – Why are you doing this in the first place because it will keep you focused (‘making money’ is not always a big enough why for people)

There is absolutely no reason why you won’t make it. I don’t know how you feel about the word ‘faith’ but have faith in yourself and in the process and keep going.

No problem Eva. Anything you try to learn without help and support can be frustrating but not impossible. I just find its a lot quicker when you can learn from people who are where you want to be. If you decide to invest your money and time into buying/reading this it will inspire you and help you stay focused.

This is a wonderful practical post that inspires me to press on with purpose. The one point I didn’t see is speaking to the point of frustration as you Blog. By that I mean getting past the moment when you feel its not working as you would like it to work. Sometimes the biggest time killer is wasted time or energy. Getting distracted from the intended purpose or topic. What do you do when you lack the discipline it takes to be a truly successful blogger. I know its not a friendly topic, but I believe 80% of bloggers are not successful because they give up or don’t commit. I would love to see a blog coach or mentor speak to and accountability process.
